(I have grades K-3 in my Common Core packs!)

and some favorite upcoming seasonal packs!

I hope you all thoroughly enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday! My husband had a busy night at work (firefighter that works 24 hour shifts), so to let him have some peace to take a nap, I took the girls to see Frozen at the movies!

Then, after dinner, we set up the projector outside and watched Care Bears' Nutcracker - one of my childhood favorites!

Enjoy your Black Friday!!

Out with November and in with December!

What?! This is my 4th post in a row...in 4 days!?! Mark it on the calendar!! haha!! Yesterday I did my whole post on my Turkey Bags that we do every year...the kids love doing them because of the chromatology activity. They are always a hit!

So this post is what we did for Thanksgiving and what I go ready before I left for the day we get back!  First, let me show you my little anchor chart we did....It was prompted from one of our Scholastic News Magazines that we were reading. The Title had a question mark, but the first 3 people who read it, read it like it was just a statement....so that prompted a little mini lesson on how to read punctuation....lol

So this week we finished our pilgrims.... We read a nonfiction article on Eating the Plates. I have NO idea where I got this article from. It's been in my files for YEARS. But it's a great article to show kids the different between life back then and life today.

We also read The Littlest Pilgrim and did a SWBSF on the book to summarize.

We did a compare/contrast (headers come from my Turkey Time pack

Can I tell you...I basically had to tell my kids that YES, you BOTH have chores...apparently kids today don't have chores??? I had chores growing up...my girls even have chores (granted, it's like clean your room, clean your mess, clear the table...but still!)

They glued their venn diagram into their writing journal, then wrote their sloppy copy comparing the two different kinds of children.

Then they wrote it out onto their neat copy (from my Turkey Time pack) and the did Caitlin's cute Pilgrim craft.

We also did our math turkeys. They picked 3 different cards to make a 3-digit number. Then they had to do the expanded form, word form, base ten blocks, +20 and -20 feathers.

For our Native America Studies, we used our Social Studies book to learn about the different regions, and we used Teach 123's Native American pack to helps us do our research!

SO before I left, I got a few things ready for the week we get back....

#2 - Calendar Task Cards from Sunny Days!

#3 - Winter Word Cards from Miss Kindergarten Love

#4 - Awesome words Folders from Caitlin

AND I got ready my Holidays Around the World pack.....

#1 - Class book
#2 - student reader
#3 - Passport
#4 - stamps for the passport

Here are a few pictures of the class book

and the student reader - it's the same as the class book, just smaller and in black and white

The passport has a page for their information and picture

a page for the stamps and a then each page has a picture for them to draw something that would remind them of that country, and then a little blurb under it. I also have them write that country's way of saying "Merry Christmas" on the bottom of the polaroid.

Check it out!

Ok, so I was giving away one of these and said I was going to pick a winner Tuesday...well....It's Wednesday, a day late....and I'm going to pick 3 winners, not 1!

Winners are:

TONI!!

STORIE!!

LISA!!

I've already emailed you, so keep a look out!

Turkey Bags with a COLORFUL twist!!

I've FINALLY been able to take pictures of our turkey bags that we make every year.  First, I copy off all the pieces onto the colored paper...or have the kids trace all the parts....I usually just have the kids trace. (the legs are like 1-1 1/2 inch strips...about 8 inches long).

They cut them all out and accordion fold the legs.

Now, fold the bag to the top of the flap (when it's laying flat, the bottom is facing up...fold to the top of THAT flap)....does that make sense?

Cut on that fold, so the top of the bag is cut off

They measure out the rice, and put it in the baggie and then put the baggie in the brown bag. The rice is not only part of the recipe, but it also helps to weigh the bag down!

Glue on the legs and the feet....

Twist the wattle around a pencil....

glue the wattle to the beak and then glue THAT side of the beak to the head so you can't see where you glue the wattle. Add eyes to the turkey (some kids like to get really creative with the eyes!)

Now, for the part that you cut off the bag, you're going to cut that piece into 2 pieces....

Then accordion fold those and staple them like a fan. Then staple the head to the bag (which has the rice in it) and staple the wings to the side of the bag.

Now...for the TAIL feathers! This is SOOOO fun!!!  Take a coffee filter and cut it in half. Draw a black line a little bit up from the bottom...the marker HAS to be Mr. Sketch - it does NOT work with Crayola markers. I found out the hard way one year. lol. Make sure to have paper under the coffee filter so it doesn't bleed through onto your table or desk....found that one out the hard way too - ha!!

Now, in a container or a little bowl, fill it up JUST A LITTLE with water...dip the coffee filter into the water - do NOT put the black line in the water....just the bottom of the coffee filter....you can stick the filter to the side of the container and the kids can watch the colors disperse through the coffee filter!! It's SOOO cool! This has a big name....it's called CHROMATOLOGY. see?? told you it was a big name!

once the colors have gone almost all the way to the top, dump out the water, and let the filters dry. Then tape them to the back of the turkey for the tail feathers!

Tie the recipe around the neck and VOILA! done!

Click {HERE} to grab the templates for the turkey.

The recipe is with the templates, but just in case you only want the recipe, here it is so you can print it up.

Gobble-Good Turkey Casserole
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
1 package onion soup mix
1 cup rice
1 1/2 cups milk
2-3 cups leftover turkey
Combine all ingredients in a large casserole dish.  Bake Covered at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

It might be too late for you to do them this year, but maybe you can save it for next year :)
